Title:
Fasciolosis in horses on a Belgian stud farm
Abstract:
On a Belgian stud farm, problems with horses in poor body condition persisted between autumn 2009 and autumn2010. The horses had a dull hair coat and lost weight in spite of a correct deworming strategy. Blood analysisrevealed liver damage, especially the gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) was elevated. On faecal examination, Fasciolahepatica eggs were found in one horse. After treatment with triclabendazole all complaints disappeared. Thiscase shows that fasciolosis must be incorporated in the differential diagnosis of horses with poor body condition andelevated liver enzymes.
